Party Girl

Party Girl

Romance is in the air again this week! And I'm glad to report it's a favorite gal of mine, Amanda Le-Roy. Amanda has been dating Danny Toups for six years, and he finally popped the question. It's about time, Danny! On June 29, the day the couple closed on their first house, Danny sent her a dozen roses at work (C.H. Fenstermaker & Associates) with a note that said, "Congratulations on our new home." After the closing, they got all dressed up for a snazzy dinner at the new house, and Danny got down on one knee in the kitchen and proposed. Amanda had been practicing her response 'Yes! ' for a long time. Her friend, Laura Andrew, and dad, Jorge, got to work planning an engagement party, and a luau was held Aug. 26 at Laura's home. About 50 guests braved the rain that day to toast the couple. The wedding's scheduled at the Zoo of Acadiana next April.

Also celebrating recently was Computers for Business Management (CBM)/AudioScribe. The company held a ribbon cutting at its office in Breaux Bridge and dedicated its building as the Roy & Hazel Theriot Technology Center. "Our ribbon cutting is our way to let those in Acadiana know just how local 'worldwide' can be," says CEO/CTO Chad Theriot. Quite a crowd, including Carmen Blanco and Patricia Parks from Cox and the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce's Rob Guidry turned out in support of CBM. But the special guest of the day was Ms. Lafayette Parish Liz Landry, complete in her sash and sparkling crown. You go girl! Congratulations, Chad!

In case y'all weren't brave enough to venture out into the heat and dust of the Original Southwest Louisiana Zydeco Festival during Labor Day weekend, I hope you at least listened indoors on KRVS like Party Girl did. Also air-conditioned was a recent booksigning at Paragon Casino the day of its own Creole Zydeco Festival in the Mari Center. Cajun attorney Warren Perrin and Anna Keller, a member of the Louisiana Press Woman's Association, discussed their books and signed copies. Perrin wrote Acadian Redemption, and Keller wrote Belle Terre Acadie, a work of fiction about the Acadian families who settled here. You can find Keller's book at xlibris.com and Perrin's at amazon.com and local bookstores.
