CROWLEY, La. (AP) - State wildlife and fisheries agents have arrested a 39-year-old man accused of stealing crawfish.

Agents with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries' Enforcement Division arrested Jason P. Mire, of Crowley, on Tuesday.

The department says it received complaints from crawfish farmers in the Mowatta area about people stealing crawfish from traps in their ponds. At about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sgt. Justin Sonnier was on surveillance and saw Mire allegedly taking crawfish from traps in a pond that did not belong to him.

Sonnier caught Mire with 31 pounds of live crawfish, valued at about $62. The crawfish were returned to the victim's pond and Mire was booked with theft of crawfish and criminal trespassing.

Bond was set at $1,000. It was not immediately known if Mire has an attorney.
