Summer's all about acting like a kid again, and Party Girl's glad to see so many local kids having some summer fun! Leslie Briggs threw what may have been the coolest birthday party during the month of May. Her mom searched for a fun and unique way to celebrate and finally decided on a canoe trip down the Vermilion River. With the help of Bayou Vermilion District's Kerry Collins, Leslie and her friends boarded the Vermilionville "Cocodrie" and rode upriver before stepping into their canoes. Twenty-three guests and 11 canoes later, the kids ' and their excited dads who shared in the adventure ' ended the day with a picnic by the pond and birthday cake and presents. Guests included Susan and Joey Chauffe and their daughters Carolina and Christina and Katy Briggs (sister of the birthday girl). "Everyone enjoyed being on the river, and all agreed we would do it again soon," says Leslie's mom, Erin.
The sun also shone recently on third- through eighth-graders from Cathedral-Carmel, who were treated to Bach Lunch at Parc Sans Souci for being super readers. (E.J. Krampe from McDonald's provided the lunch.) And it was tea for more than two in Opelousas on May 21, when Rayne Girl Scout Troop # 526 visited The Enchanted Tea Party. The girls dressed up, drank tea, ate scones and modeled an assortment of dresses, hats, boas, shoes and jewelry on the runway. Megan Conner of Lafayette Ballet Theater provided more entertainment, and the tea party concluded with Enchanted Tea Party owner Tammy Lamonte handing out Tea Party badges to the scouts. Now, that's an honor!
What have the adults been up to while the kids are celebrating? Everyone looks forward to Downtown Development Authority and Downtown Lafayette Unlimited's annual Crawfish Boil on the rooftop of the parking garage, and this year's festivities were no exception. Held May 11, the view from up high showcased downtown at dusk and an array of downtown supporters. Blake David, DLU president-elect, started the festivities with a few words on the importance of a vital downtown, and The Tropic Hoppers entertained guests with warm island sounds. The night concluded with a view of a glorious moon shining over downtown.
