Even party girls sometimes need a little spiritual guidance. So I was quite delighted to accept an invitation from the Episcopal Church Women to their annual fall kick-off. The "High Tea at the Ascension Court," held on Sunday, Oct. 7, was a scrumptious affair for both body and spirit. The ECW's leadership team, Nancy Houston, Brenda Headley, Carol Patton, Sylvia Turner, Pat Brown, Molly Kallenberger, Joan Martin and Glenda Pelletier, invited me to a three-course high tea, complete with chicken salad, artichoke squares, raspberry scones, Devonshire cream and, yes, the ubiquitous cucumber sandwich. Conversation was as free flowing as the earl grey tea and all ladies left refreshed and inspired â?¦ including Party Girl herself.
There is a new group in town that Party Girl just had to be part of. The 705 is an organization of 18 to 40-year-olds with the mission to motivate young people to become civic leaders. Well, maybe I'm not quite cut out to be a civic leader, but that's not going to stop me from trying. And leadership minded or not, these young professionals know how to throw a party. The 705 launch event on Oct. 17 at Grant Street Dancehall was living proof that you can be serious about community and be just as serious about getting down (now they're talking my language). More than 100 members of this group talked, enjoyed drinks and boogied to live music by Louisiana Red. The emerging community leaders that make up the 705 have created this organization in collaboration with United Way of Acadiana. The 705 made a great impression on me, and I left feeling very motivated to reach out and contribute my share to community service.
Of course name dropping is a big part of my job, and it's important to get them right, so deepest apologies to Frankie and Charon Harris for the typo in Charon's name last week. Look forward to seeing y'all again soon at another fabulous party in town!
