MAY 19 The New Orleans Saints showed they're more than just a football team this weekend when they signed safety Devon Walker, this blog post on NFL.com reports. Walker, who just graduated from Tulane, has been paralyzed since a football injury in 2012. Coach Peyton said the gesture was "to recognize Devon and these attributes that we want all of our players to have."

MAY 19 Blogger Bob Mann could be on to something here. Since all of Gov. Jindal's privatization efforts have worked out so well (LOL!) maybe we should just save some money and privatize the legislature, Mann says. After all, they just take orders from Jindal and/or the corporations that fund their campaigns, Mann says. Let's cut out the middle man!

ONE STUDENT'S VIEW OF HER "CHOICE"
MAY 19 Here's an editorial written by a New Orleans high school student posted in Time Magazine. This young woman wants to know why discipline is more important than learning at her school. Good question: is the point to produce educated people or obedient people?

ANY OF THIS STUFF SOUND FAMILIAR?
MAY 19 Here's a blog post written by a Wisconsin legislator who attended a second ALEC conference and is spilling the beans about the shadowy organization's political agenda. Among the insights he gives us? ALEC wants its minions to "stomp out local control" by school boards and city councils.

WAPO Q&A WITH JINDAL ON RELIGION
MAY 19 Here's a post on the Washington Post's Politics blog featuring a Q&A with Bobby Jindal. There's also a link here to another WaPo story about Jindal using religion as a bedrock of his campaign. (Huh? Is he running for Undersecretary of Sanctimony or President?)

AN (ACCURATE) NEW ORLEANS LIST
MAY 19 Here's another pointless list, but this one does some truth-telling for tourists (and, ahem, carpetbaggers who claim to live there) about some pretty important things. The first is how to pronounce the city; it debunks once and for all the inexplicable idea that anybody says "N'awlins" without encountering shame and ridicule for doing so.

THAT SECESSION THING IS A TREND...
MAY 19 Seem those Baton Rouge folks are not the only whites, er ones who are trying to carve their own little town out of an existing one. This post on the Nation takes a look at this trend, which seems to be making things worse.

HUFF POST SAYS WE'RE LOOKING TO SEGREGATE
MAY 19 Here's a story from Huffington Post about a bill that would "segregate students with disabilities." There's back-and-forth between both sides, and it ends as many articles involving our state government end: with a statement that Gov. Jindal's office never returned a call seeking comment.
