Party Girl

Who says lawyers can't get into the spirit of the season? On Dec. 5, the Onebane Law Firm hosted the annual Christmas social for the Lafayette Parish Bar Association. With Christmas décor gracing their offices in River Ranch and wonderful food and holiday refreshments, the Christmas season was kicked off in style. The eggnog was flowing, and even the most dedicated lawyers in town took off their ties and loosened up those power suits.

Not to be outdone, The Gachassin Law Firm yet again sponsored the annual Silver Bell Soiree, benefiting the Lafayette Community Health Care Clinic. This sparkling event on the evening of Dec. 6 was held at the Petroleum Club. Hundreds of participants enjoyed the silver-lined ceiling and Christmas decorations along with musical entertainment by the St. Cecilia Children's Bell Choir and harpist Bette Vidrine. As the evening progressed, high heels were kicked off and hair came down while dancing to the sounds of the Robbie Bush Band. I guess living in south Louisiana rubs off on even the most hardened lawyers and doctors. And Party Girl loved to see such a long list of sponsors support the Lafayette Community Health Care Clinic's efforts to bring health care to the working uninsured of our community. Kudos to Lou Patin for organizing the live auction, which included an adorable puppy that went to a loving new home.

From live puppies to painted ones: Blue Dog Café's signature woofer would have howled in approval as guests at the United Way Leadership Givers Gala wolfed down the café's graciously donated nibbles. This year's "evening of appreciation" was held Wednesday, Nov. 29, at the lakeside home of Dr. Jeff and Angie Laborde. The involvement of this special group of donors helps assure that United Way can fund crisis and prevention services. I was extremely impressed with these folks' caring and generosity and hope that more and more people in our community will join United Way in its quest to improve people's lives. I left the party reminded of the Christmas spirit of giving ' and still hoping I might get that pair of black sling backs I want for Christmas!
