Levee board suit has House divided

by Patrick Flanagan

Only one bill against the levee board lawsuit remains, and it's expected for a final vote Thursday in the House, where a surprising number of lawmakers remain undecided.

After more than a dozen bills were filed in reaction to the New Orleans levee board's lawsuit against 97 oil and gas companies for coastal damages, only one remains and it's expected for a final vote Thursday in the House, where a surprising number of lawmakers remain undecided.

According to an email received Wednesday by The IND, of the 105 members of the House, 33 are still undecided on their stance toward Senate Bill 469, which seeks to retroactively kill the levee board's lawsuit.

Sources close to the Legislature say the vote will likely be tighter than anyone originally thought, and that there's a decent chance the House may very well kill the bill, thereby allowing the levee board's suit to be decided by the courts.
