Council to vote on Horse Farm

The plan, created over months of public input under the guidance of the nonprofit Lafayette Central Park Inc., represents an ambitious - and expensive - guide for converting the 100 acres of raw, pastoral land between Johnston Street and West Bayou Parkway into a central public park for the city of Lafayette.

The Lafayette City-Parish Council will vote Tuesday evening on a resolution paving the way for putting the Horse Farm's master plan into action.

If approved by the council, fundraising for completing the plan will begin in earnest. The plan includes water features, areas for children, walking and biking paths, a dog park and other amenities, with an overall eye for having a passive space for residents to picnic, toss a Frisbee or fly a kite.

LCP has been encouraging Horse Farm supporters to show up en masse at the meeting and show their support. The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall and the resolution will be voted on shortly after the opening gavel.
