Horse Farm resolution approved

With approval of the plan, Lafayette Central Park Inc., the nonprofit established to oversee the 100 acres' transformation into a public green space, will begin fundraising in earnest.

The Lafayette City-Parish Council voted unanimously on a resolution Tuesday night approving a draft master plan for the Horse Farm.

With approval of the plan, Lafayette Central Park Inc., the nonprofit established to oversee the 100 acres' transformation into a public green space, will begin fundraising in earnest. Thus far LCP, through the Community Foundation of Acadiana, has secured $2.6 million through the Lafayette Public Trust Financing Authority. A spokesman for the nonprofit says other benefactors have expressed an interest in donating as well.

Several residents spoke in favor of the council approving the resolution during the public comment portion of the meeting. Twenty-two residents also signed cards expressing their support for the resolution.

The park's completion will still take several phases over the next few years, but the ribbon is expected to be cut and the park open to the public sometime around the fall of 2015.
