IS THERE A DATA CRISIS AT DOE?
JUN 13 Blogger Crazy Crawfish tells a pretty alarming story in this post about an alleged situation over at the state Department of Education. The department is having a crisis with its data, he writes. The data and reports being generated are "garbage," he says. If you don't think that's relevant, he reminds us that this is data that is used for TOPS, student promotions, scholarships, and of course to close down schools or remove them from local control.

CITIZENS AIMING TO "FLOOD" BATON ROUGE
JUN 12 If they didn't see this coming, they weren't paying attention. A group called "The Oil is Still Here, and So Are We" has planned a protest for later this month in Baton Rouge. This is the link to the event's Facebook page, which explains that the event begins in Grand Isle, with a march to the Governor's Mansion, with people symbolically carrying water.

'NOTHING BEATS LOUISIANA CORRUPTION'
JUN 13 Blogger Manny Schweitz writes about Bobby Jindal's decision to sign the bill aimed at shielding Big Oil from lawsuits in this post on Forward Progressives. He calls it an "outrageous betrayal of Louisiana." Louisiana politics have always come with a heavy dose of corruption, but this is a new level, Manny opines. He wonders: Could it give Democrats the opening they've been hoping for?

THE LENS CREATES A VAULT OF PUBLIC DOCUMENTS
JUN 13 The Lens opens their new vault this week. With the 5300 NOLA contracts they've uploaded, the vault now offers more public records than the city's own website does.

JUN 13 Given the increasing frequency of school shootings, blogger Ian McGibboney is wondering what the purpose of these (alleged) gun-free zones is. Are these (apparently) useless characterizations just an exercise in public relations? Or are they an example of "rational people trying to out-crazy the irrational ones"?

JUN 12 Blogger Lamar White Jr. gives us his take on the Super PAC and "con-profit" created by those dedicated servants of Lousiana, David Vitter and Bobby Jindal, respectively. (Hint: He's not a fan.) As usual, Lamar gives us lots of details and links to fully educate ourselves on the entire issue.

A LEGISLATOR'S PRIVATE NON-PROFIT RAKES IN GOVT DOLLARS
JUN 13 We've heard plenty about the spending of NOLA and BR area legislators in recent months, but here's a post on Forward Now about a Caddo Parish rep who has set up a non-profit that employs him and is funded by public dollars. Blogger John Settle looks at this organization - which seems to spend most of its money on the lege's salary, conferences and travel.
