An early morning car chase along I-10 ended in Lafayette with the recovery of a kidnapped Florida teen and her captor.

Lafayette Police spokesman Cpl. Paul Mouton says the chase started shortly after witnesses spotted the missing teen and her captor, Steven Myers, at a truck stop in Grosse Tete.

A chase ensued, lasting 40 miles and involving various law enforcement agencies.

According to Mouton, tire spikes were laid out across the interstate, deflating five of the six tires on Myers' truck. He kept driving though, and according to a witness who spoke with WTSP News out of Tampa Bay, sparks were flying from Myers' vehicle as he led officers along the interstate.

One of the tires finally caught fire near the North University Avenue overpass, and Myers - a registered sex offender from Florida - exited the vehicle bearing a knife and yelling for officers to shoot him.

Officers responded with Tasers and a K-9, and Myers - who also was suffering from a number of self-inflicted stab wounds - was cuffed and brought into custody. The teenager - who's been missing since last week - also was found with multiple stab wounds and was taken to a local hospital.
