Jindal signs ‘pregnant life support' bill

The bill allows the state to keep brain-dead pregnant women on life support so their fetuses can be brought to term and delivered, even if the patient's family opposes such a measure.

Gov. Bobby Jindal has signed House Bill 1274 by New Orleans Democratic Rep. Austin Badon allowing the state to keep brain-dead pregnant women on life support so their fetuses can be brought to term and delivered, even if the patient's family opposes such a measure.

The bill sailed through the Legislature in the recently concluded session. Jindal's office announced this evening that the governor signed it into law.

Problems with the bill are many, regardless of one's views on abortion and the sanctity of life, as blogger and IND friend Lamar White points out in an item posted to his website yesterday. Read it here.
