In an interview with Politico, state Superintendent John White used some strong words against Gov. Bobby Jindal's attempt to dismantle the Common Core academic standards.
White tells Politico - a favorite mouthpiece of the governor - that Jindal "breached a constitutional line and broke the law in suspending assessments in Louisiana for reasons that defy the civil rights of our state's citizens."
White argues that Common Core presents an opportunity for all students to see where they stand against students in other states and countries.
"When you go to school in the Ninth Ward of New Orleans ... who is there to validate that the learning that's taking place and the results you've gotten stack up against the rest of society?" questions White. "These tests assure the civil rights especially of the most disadvantaged children."
