"DECODING THE CULTURAL POLITICS OF DUCK DYNASTY"
JUL 9 This is a fascinating post on The Lens about the political and cultural phenomenon that is Duck Dynasty. As CW Cannon writes, the ploy of portraying "establishment insiders" as "rebels" is as old as the Confederacy, but still in enthusiastic use today. It's just old Kool-Aid poured into new bottles, Cannon writes.

JUL 9 Hey, it's hard to be a fan of Bobby Jindal, but this post in Salon is a pretty ruthless analysis of Jindal's continued inability to make a dent on the national scene. KINGFISH ON THE POLL: BOBBY DON'T CARE
JUL 9 In this post on Daily Kingfish, Lamar Parmentel is talking about the recent poll that shows Bobby Jindal is winning the contest to be one of the least popular governors in the country. But Lamar isn't shedding any tears for Bobby, because he says he's sure Bobby doesn't give a hoot about what his home numbers are.

NOLA TAXI CAB DECISION A DELIMMA
JUL 9 If you don't pay attention to what's going on in NOLA politics you may not have heard about the Uber issue, but it's important for a city that relies on taxi cabs. Uber is an app that connects drivers and riders, and generally bypasses any laws and ordinances that govern livery services because it styles itself a communication platform instead. This post on Gambit explains the situation pretty clearly.

JUL 9 Here's the latest on the sinkhole over in Bayou Corne, from Yahoo news. It's a report from seismologists who have been looking at the earthquakes that have occurred in the area since the sinkhole opened up and swallowed huge chunks of land.
