JUL 10 If you're not busy and you're not up for getting gored by a real bull, the NOLA version of the Running of the Bulls happens this weekend, a post on NOLA Defender tells us. This particular Encierro involves roller derby girls and whiffle bats, and it's all for a good cause. This year, Animal Rescue New Orleans and the state MS society benefit.

GILL: DON'T BE MAD AT THE DUCKS
JUL 10 Columnist James Gill comments upon the recent revelation that the millionaire West Monroe family featured in "Duck Dynasty" is receiving what some consider to be corporate welfare to the tune of about $70K per episode. The bloggers who keep railing about it are misdirecting their ire, he says. If the Robinsons turned down free money they'd be stupid (and they're not stupid, even if they do play stupid on TV). It's the government that set up the scheme that should be criticized, he says.

BERRY'S COMMENTARY ON ADVERTISER "FLUFF"
JUL 10 Blogger Jason Berry is writing about the BP claims process again in this piece, and this time he's taking aim at a story in our very own Advertiser about one of the attorneys handling the work. "This thing reads like a Kim Jong Il biopic written by a North Korean press secretary held at gunpoint," he says.

COURT: PRIESTS MUST REPORT CHILD MOLESTATION
JUL 10 The state Supreme Court has ruled that priests must report child abuse, even if they learned of it during confession, RawStory reports in this post. In the case at bar, a little girl told a priest that another parishioner was molesting her. The victim testified that the priest told her to keep the abuse to herself, because telling would hurt too many people. Say what?

JUL 10 KEEL provides us with a link to an interactive map that shows you how hot your summers will be in 95 years. For Lafayette, where we have an average temp of 90 degrees, the temps will be more like Pharr, Texas, where the average is 96 now. Of course, by 2100 some of us will be dead and in a place where 96 degrees will sound positively frigid.

ST. TAMMANY DA: MEDIA IS "OBSESSED"
JUL 10 The District Attorney over in St. Tammany Parish, who has been the target of concentrated investigative reporting for the past several months, issued a statement Wednesday complaining about media interest in his campaign finances and his brother, this post from WVUE reports. The post contains a link to the story about his brother, which is a lot more interesting than his complaining.
