U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu continues to outraise her chief Republican competitor, U.S. Rep. Bill Cassidy, but she's spending more money as well.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu continues to outraise her chief Republican competitor, U.S. Rep. Bill Cassidy, but she's spending more money as well.

The Democratic incumbent is heading into the most heated portion of the Senate race with a narrowing advantage in her cash on hand.

Landrieu's campaign announced Tuesday that the senator, seeking her fourth term, raised $2.1 million in the most recent fundraising quarter. By comparison, Cassidy's campaign announced that it raised $1.6 million for the same period.

The contenders for the Nov. 4 election have similar amounts of cash in the bank: Landrieu reports $6.2 million, while Cassidy reports $5.8 million.

The third candidate in the race, Republican and tea party favorite Rob Maness, hasn't announced his fundraising figures. But he's been lagging Landrieu and Cassidy in donations.
