Attorney Valerie Gotch Garrett will announce on Tuesday that she plans to run for the Division E seat of the 15th Judicial District Court currently held by Judge Herman Clause, who is ineligible to seek another term. The division represents a portion of north Lafayette Parish.

Garrett was recognized recently for her pro bono work by the Louisiana State Bar Association when she was named a recipient of the 2014 Pro Bono Publico Award, which recognizes an attorney or law firm that has provided pro bono legal services to residents of Louisiana that meet or exceed the aspirational goal of providing 50 hours of pro bono services per year, as established in Rule 6.1 of Louisiana's Rules of Professional Conduct.

She is a graduate of UL Lafayette and Southern Law School, and has served as a contract attorney for Acadiana Legal Services, as a criminal public defender in the 15th Judicial District Court and as a Criminal Justice Act Panel federal public defender. Garrett, now in private practice, has also provided extensive amounts of pro bono work in the family law area.
