La. joins Indiana gay marriage suit

by Walter Pierce

Louisiana has joined nine other states in support of Indiana's appeal of a federal judge's ruling that the Hoosier State's ban on sam-sex marriage violates the Constitution.

Attorney General Buddy Caldwell's office announced the filing of the amicus brief Friday afternoon:

At the forefront of the argument, the attorneys general assert that it is each state's right to determine whether same sex marriage should be permitted.  The brief stresses that the court has long recognized that the authority over the institution of marriage lies with the states, and that the lower court's decision infringes on the important state power to regulate domestic relations.

Also signing onto the brief are attorneys general from Colorado, Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Idaho, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota and Utah.
