Louisiana has been designated the state with the nation's fourth worst education system, according to a recent top 50 listing from WalletHub.

According to the personal finance website, the report is an attempt to gauge the "quality of education in the 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia to identify those with the best and worst school systems."

The top 50 list is a combination of two rankings looking at school system quality as well as each state's safety and education output, including metrics such as reading and math scores, drop-out rates, incidents of bullying, and student-teacher ratios, among others.

In addition to having the 48th best educational system in the nation, Louisiana also placed among the top five states for worst math and reading scores, and for having the nation's highest percentage of students forced to repeat a grade.
