A lawsuit against the Lafayette Parish School Board and two of its members was filed in federal court this afternoon after the board refused to discuss the matter during a closed-door session slated for Wednesday night's meeting.
A lawsuit against the Lafayette Parish School Board and two of its members was filed in federal court this afternoon after the board refused to discuss the matter during a closed-door session slated for Wednesday night's meeting.
The lawsuit was filed shortly after 2:30 p.m. this afternoon [Thursday] by attorney Gary McGoffin on behalf of Cajundome Director Greg Davis - both are strong advocates for the school system - in an attempt to stop certain board members in their push for the termination of Superintendent Pat Cooper, and bring an end to the stalemate over this year's budget approval process.
The suit names board members Tehmi Chassion and Mark Allen Babineaux, and calls for their disqualification from voting on any matters related to Cooper's employment with the school system. Included in the suit is a detailed list showing examples of bias from each board member toward the superintendent over the last two years.
