The man accused of calling in bogus threats about bombs on the UL Lafayette campus to divert police from an attempted bank robbery on Moss Street has been indicted by a federal grand jury.
Thirty-year-old Devin Haywood of Lafayette is facing one count of using a facility in interstate commerce to willfully make a threat or maliciously convey false information and one count of attempted bank robbery. According to a release from U.S. Attorney Stephanie A. Finley, Haywood faces up to 30 years in prison - 20 years for the attempted robbery and 10 for the bomb threat - and up to half a million dollars in fines.
No one was injured in the July 16 threat and attempted robbery, but the incident did close down the UL campus and surrounding areas for several hours as police and federal officials investigated.
