McAllister signs up for re-election, with ice

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - U.S. Rep. Vance McAllister started his sign-up for re-election the same as other candidates, filling out paperwork and handing over qualifying money. But he finished it like no other, doused with ice.

The embattled Republican congressman took the ice bucket challenge outside the Secretary of State's Office on Friday, after registering for the Nov. 4 ballot. The challenge is a social media phenomenon designed to bring donations and attention to the ALS Association, which raises money for Lou Gehrig's disease research.

Wearing a Saints jersey, McAllister's aides dumped an ice chest full of icy water over the congressman, before he got in his truck to head off to a public speaking event.

The congressman, who was caught up earlier this year in a cheating scandal, has drawn five challengers.
