CASSIDY STANDS BY COMMENT, BUT WON'T DEBATE
SEP 11 You have to wonder about these people who can't stop telling you how smart they are -- but refuse to participate in any discussion. Congressman Bill Cassidy says he stands by his comments about the Senate being a "plantation," but apparently is afraid of having to talk about it in public, because he's leaving the Senate debate to Mary Landrieu and Rob Maness, NOLA Defender reports in this post.

"THE WEIRDEST COUNTRY IN AMERICA"
SEP 11 This post by Kris Davidson describes her work on a National Geographic Traveler piece about Louisiana. Included in this post is the layout of the story, as well as some amazing images she captured.

SEP 11 Columnist Clancy DuBos marks the entry of former NOLA Mayor Ray Nagin into prison with this post. He looks back over Nagin's short career in politics, from his start as a "rock star" who was anything but political, to a corrupt, lazy politician who wasn't any better at taking bribes than he was at running the city.

SEP 11 This editorial in the Picayune calls for the firing of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell for his mishandling of the Ray Rice case. His story that the NFL never saw the "complete" video of Rice punching his fiancee in the face (they only saw the part where Rice dragged her unconscious body out of an elevator by her ankles. K.) is wearing thin, the paper says.

DREHER TO BUSH FANS: NOT SO FAST
SEP 11 Blogger Rod Dreher takes issue with the b.s. being slung, attempting to blame Obama for Isis and give Bush credit for predicting our current predicament. The worst part is Dick Cheney's "I told you so" tour, Dreher says, since Cheney is the "one of the principal architects of one of the worst disasters in US foreign policy and military history."

SEP 11 Here's a brief post on The Peace Pundit, a political blog out of Georgia, in which Bobby Jindal is quoted as making some statements that are probably hilarious to people who are aware of his tenure as governor. Item one: he said a Democratic candidate is "clueless about governing in the real world." Item two: he called the Dem's political proposals "fairy dust." Item three: he called another Democrat "a flip-flopper." Hmmm.

SEP 11 This post from columnist James Gill muses on the bizarre story of Scott Rogers, an affable TV host of a puff show in Baton Rouge who had a dark past back in England. Rogers had changed his name and moved halfway around the world, but surely he must've always wondered when his past would come back to haunt him, Gill writes.

SEP 11 Given Louisiana's alcohol problem - from driving drunk to underage drinking - it's good to know our alcohol officials are operating at the top of their game. This (extremely detailed) story from KATC tells of a guy in Baton Rouge who was the subject of intense investigation because he was selling fruit infused vodka via Instagram. Thank goodness these guys are protecting us from the scourge of cherry bounce.
