It’s a jungle out there. Art walkers at New Iberia’s arts open house will encounter literary lions, primitive painters and a pair of pint-size giraffes. Add some snakes, a few parrots and some baby kangaroos and parents will be hard pressed to keep their kids from begging to participate in the cultural season. The Zoo of Acadiana joins more than 60 local artists, musicians, restaurants, merchants and astronomer Dave Hostetter, who will be offering a view of Mars, from 5-8 p.m., tonight along New Iberia’s downtown historic district.
Tomorrow, beginning at 11 a.m., Southern Mutual Help Association sponsors the Great Gator Race at Bouligny Plaza along Bayou Teche. Sponsor an inflatable alligator, the winner of the lap down the Teche claims a Caribbean cruise. The fund raiser to help Southern Mutual’s clients become home owners is a community event with barbecue, music and dancing in the downtown square. Also Saturday, 9a.m.-4p.m., the annual Arts and Crafts Show at Shadows-On-The-Teche brings regional craftsmen together for an artful afternoon under the oaks of the National Register Historic District. The forecast is for a warm sunny weekend, the wisteria and azaleas are in full bloom, its a great time to take a ride through the country to the Queen City of the Teche .
