Creative living flourishes at Downtown's artist hub.
Brittany Boudreaux and Jacob Danos are living the artist life in the best sort of way. The UL students are living Downtown at The Studios at LWG in a one-bedroom apartment that's filled with their first home purchases as a couple.
Danos' artistry comes by way of graphic design, photography and music while Boudreaux focuses on graphic design and photography. And they are both part of a building that aims to make quality housing affordable to local artists. The 15-unit building that includes a courtyard area for live music and gallery space, Gallery 333, is a Lafayette Public Trust Financing Authority-backed effort to nurture "Lafayette's creative human capital by creating affordable urban housing opportunities for area artists."
The Studios at LWG is a workforce housing rental development located at 333 Monroe St. to meet the needs of Lafayette's artists. And it's certainly working for artists like Boudreaux and Danos. When the couple first heard about the project months ago, they both knew it was exactly where they wanted to go. They sat on the info until it was time to apply and crossed their fingers.
They were accepted, bought their first couch and painted the kitchen table yellow. Their space is fresh, eclectic, young. In short it looks like just the space two young artists would call home in a fantasy world. And they are thrilled to share their work that's being created at their new home.
"We want to make it a hub to show all of the cool stuff not being shown anywhere else," Danos says.
They've been a hit at ArtWalk and the gallery in the front of the building has pieces from residents as well as other local artists. The space itself has soaring ceilings, exposed beams and a look that's industrial. It's the perfect backdrop for an eclectic collection of work and a burgeoning hub of artists.
