THAT'S A LOT OF CHANGE TO FIND IN THE COUCH!
OCT 13 Blogger CB Forgotston is taking a look at the alleged (miraculous) surplus announced last week by the Jindal administration. From whence did this money come? He's wondering. He's also discussing how it can be spent -- assuming it's not Monopoly money after all.

BROWN: LACK OF PRIDE IS COSTING US
OCT 13 Jim Brown is blogging about pride and economic opportunity in this post. Louisiana misses out on the latter because it is lacking in the former, Brown says, sharing the story of how north Louisiana lost out on a plant opportunity because the group that visited saw so much trash on the highway.

GRACE: GAY MARRIAGE BANS ARE DEAD
OCT 13 Columnist Stephanie Grace takes stock of the most recent happenings in marriage in this post. Given what's occurred, it is clear that bans on same-sex marriage are as good as dead -- it's just a matter of when each will fall, she says.

OCT 13 One of the big cheerleaders of the "reform" movement in NOLA education has been the Cowan Institute at Tulane. The entity has been pushing charters since Katrina, with what some might call questionable methodology, blogger Mercedes Schneider writes in this post. This fall, even the institute admitted to flaws in its most recent report, and pulled it from its website. Lucky for us, Schneider has a copy and has posted it, hopeful that researchers who can't get data from the state can use the data in it.

IAN MOURNS THE SATURDAY MORNING CARTOON
OCT 13 Blogger Ian McGibboney mourns the death of Saturday morning cartoons in this post. He reminisces about the role these shows played in his old childhood, and laments their demise. But there is one thing he isn't worried about losing -- those pushy advertisements that went along with the cartoons.

LSU FOOTBALL (KINDA) EXPLAINED
OCT 13 Although he hasn't updated it since Saturday's win, this post by blogger Mighty Favog is pretty amusing - if you're not a big LSU football fan. Characterizing the Auburn loss as "fugly," he posts predictions for the rest of the Tigers' season, with a focus on clips from Toonces, the driving cat from SNL.
