Republican U.S. Sen. John McCain is campaigning across Louisiana at veterans rallies in support of GOP Senate candidate Bill Cassidy.

Cassidy, a congressman from Baton Rouge, is locked in a tight race with Democratic third-term incumbent Mary Landrieu.

While Landrieu is targeted by the GOP in its effort to retake Senate control, polls show that no candidate is projected to exceed the 50 percent voter support needed to win in Louisiana's Nov. 4 primary. The race instead is expected to be decided in a Dec. 6 runoff between Landrieu and Cassidy.

McCain appeared with Cassidy at a rally in Metairie on Sunday. On Monday, the former Republican presidential candidate was attending events with Cassidy in Covington, Baton Rouge, Lafayette and Bossier City.
