MONROE, La. (AP) - Republican congressman Vance McAllister is trying to make up to Louisiana voters for getting too close to a married former employee.

The first-term congressman was caught on tape earlier this year kissing a woman not his wife.

Despite saying earlier that he wouldn't seek a new term, McAllister is now asking voters for two more years in the House. He's bringing up the kissing incident during campaign appearances, calling it a "personal mistake." In a campaign ad, his wife says he has owned up to that same "mistake."

McAllister is one of nine candidates in the race for the seat representing northeast Louisiana. Unless one of them gets a majority of the vote, the top two vote-getters will advance to a runoff on Dec. 6.
