Chris Williams & co. make out like bandits

This year's candidate endorsements from Chris Williams' political machine, the United Ballot, were released late last week to the residents of Lafayette's third and fourth political districts.

As featured in The IND's recent article "Political Prostitutes," the United Ballot is a political action committee that exists solely to line the pockets of Chris Williams and his best buddy, Lafayette City-Parish Councilman Brandon Shelvin. Why else would the United Ballot suggest the voters of Lafayette's predominately minority communities vote for the re-election of U.S. Rep. Charles Boustany, a Republican who consistently opposes the initiatives of President Barack Obama?

The answer: Because Chris Williams and Brandon Shelvin got paid.

How much? That's the question of the hour. As noted in the "Political Prostitutes" story, one candidate of a local election was approached by Williams and Shelvin earlier in the year offering their support to the tune of $30,000. But for candidates like Boustany, the price tag, according to our sources, is much steeper.
