Middle Ground

by Marion "Butch" Fox

Jeff Davis is uniquely situated - and we know it.

Lake Arthur's Regatta LA Seafood and Steakhouse draws tourists from throughout the state to Jeff Davis Parish.

Being in the middle has its advantages, especially when your parish is located between two economic powerhouses like Lake Charles and Lafayette. The population of Jeff Davis Parish is small, but the size and availability of land is huge. Interstate 10, major rail service and the Mermentau River linking our parish to the Intracoastal Canal and the Gulf of Mexico provide many opportunities.

Our schools consistently rate high, and quality of life issues like hunting, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, bike trails, birding, crawfish, baby gator and rum tours can't be beat.

Jeff Davis Parish is a charter member of the Acadiana Regional Alliance, a member of the five-parish Southwest Louisiana Economic Development Alliance and now a member and advocate for the One Acadiana initiative. Working together with parishes from the Gulf of Mexico to the Texas line will increase our political strength and our ability to make positive changes in all of our parishes.

Workforce is a major issue our communities will face in 2014 and beyond. Job seekers do not see parish lines; they see well-paying careers available in both the Southwest Louisiana and Acadiana regions.

Jeff Davis Parish is uniquely situated to take advantage of this growth potential. Our goal is to add value to who we are and what we grow and provide job opportunities for our residents and others interested in living and working in our parish.

Our regions are on the cusp of one of the largest economic revolutions in this country, and the middle of all the action is a great place to be.
