'Blue Dog' painting found hours after theft

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A $250,000 painting stolen from a French Quarter art gallery has been recovered.

The painting was by the late Louisiana artist George Rodrigue (rod-REEG'), who was famous for his paintings of a small blue dog.

It depicts a blue dog, clad in a tuxedo and standing next to Rodrigue's wife Wendy, in her wedding dress.

Security video showed a man snatching the work from a gallery wall in a brazen Tuesday afternoon theft. Police and a gallery spokesman say members of a local rock band spotted the stolen painting, along with another print of a Rodrigue work, leaning against a building, hours after the theft.

Eighth District Police Commander Jeff Walls said the band members are not suspects. Police are reviewing more video in hopes of finding the thief.
