BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Federal health officials say more than 126,000 Louisiana residents have signed up for health insurance through the federal marketplace.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services released the latest enrollment data Wednesday, saying 126,454 people in the state had selected an insurance plan by last week.

About 102,000 Louisianians signed up through the entire enrollment period last year.

Enrollment continues until Feb. 15 under the government-subsidized private insurance program, which was created through President Barack Obama's health overhaul. Those who don't sign up during that time may have to wait until next year.

The federal health department says 91 percent of Louisiana consumers who registered for an insurance plan within the first month after enrollment began Nov. 15 were eligible for federal subsidies to help cover their costs.
