Hub City crime falls

All crime categories show decreases over 2013 except for auto thefts.

The Lafayette Police Department Thursday released its Unified Crime Report for 2014. The UCF shows that overall crime in the seven categories tracked fell by 10 percent from 2013.

There were nine murders last year compared to 10 in 2013; 10 reported forcible rapes (17 in 2013), 248 robberies (272), 2,103 assaults (2,287), 1,186 burglaries (1,276), 5,208 thefts (5,995) and 406 auto thefts (297).

The department also reports that juvenile arrests fell by 9 percent (905 in 2014, 994 in 2013) while adult arrests fell 11 percent (10,250 versus 11,577).
