Lafayette’s favorite alt rockers Brass Bed return to Festival International to bring us the swirling fuzzy power pop that they’re known for. As the New Yorker put it, “Although Brass Bed is from the region that’s known for Cajun fiddling, zydeco washboards, and, of course, jazz, the group practices rock-and-roll music with a neo-psychedelic bent.”
These guys are distinct disciples in the craft of songwriting, with tracks such as “Please Don’t Go” or “Olivia” being a bombastic testament to that. They are anything but conventional however, with subtle sonic textures and odd sounds often punctuating their repertoire. Their music is laid out over a wide range of feeling, sometimes sad, sometimes ecstatic, sometimes moody. But it’s always genuine, which is something to admire. Yes, you can dance to it, but if you listen carefully you may just feel something. You don’t want to miss the heartfelt artistry of one of the best bands in our region.
Brass Bed’s upcoming 4th LP is set to be released this year, with tracks being produced by garage rock royalty Chris Woodhouse. Brass Bed has also collaborated with fellow Festival veterans Feufollet on their wonderful Color Sessions EP.
Brass Bed will be performing April 25 at Scene TV5MONDE.
