MAR 17 Here's an interesting new feature the NOLA Defender blog is offering: interviews with interesting individuals after they've had six beers. The assumption is, the golden elixir will loosen the tongue and result in an open and honest interview. It's a noble (?) thought, and this first entry is certainly worth reading; it's an interview with NOLA songwriter Jim McCormick.

MAR 17 To take a nice break from politics, here's a post in Louisiana Sportsman about an Acadiana angler who landed a really, really big fish. It was during a tournament at Toledo Bend, and the fish herself was tagged and released. Apparently, the recreational area provides fishermen with replicas of really big fish that are released.

AS JINDAL'S TERM ENDS, ADVOCATE WAKES UP, SEES GROVER
MAR 17 After he has exerted an extreme level of influence and control over Louisiana politicians for years, the Advocate, apparently prodded awake by James Carville, invites us to "meet Grover Norquist" in this post. One wonders if it really is necessary for Carville to compare legislators to dry-humping teens for the paper to write about Norquist... Um, apparently?

MAR 17 Here's a post on the LSU Reveille about the proposed tuition autonomy bill. The bill, by Baton Rouge's Franklin Foil, would remove the (ridiculous) requirement that any significant tuition hike be approved by the Legislature.

MAR 17 Blogger Tom Aswell is taking Bobby Jindal's inventory in this post, taking a look at some of the recent ridiculousness BJ's perpetrated on the nation. It is time, Aswell says, for those feeding Bobby's delusion to just stop. There's no way he can think he's got a shot at the White House, Aswell says - unless the alternate reality crafted by the Koch brothers and ALEC is all he can see.

WELL, IT IS NICE TO KNOW WHERE YOU STAND, RIGHT?
MAR 17 Blogger CB Forgotston says this one quote he's pulled from the Advocate should clear up any illusions any of us might have about where we stand with Bobby Jindal. In it, Jindal's revenue secretary says he's already in talks with Grover Norquist and his posse to see if it's OK to pull Louisiana out of the financial black hole it's in. Huh.

LIBERTARIAN REPUBLIC: SAGGY PANTS PLAN OVER-REACHES
MAR 16 The Libertarian Republic goes on record here against the proposed anti-sag ordinance in Opelousas. (Apparently it also is being altered to outlaw Daisy Dukes, which we had no idea were still a thing.) This is a governmental over-reach which is typical, the LR opines, and an illegal attempt to legislate morality. Yeah, we know, that pesky Constitution. But seriously - the Opelousas PD has nothing better to do than police clothes? Really?

WAPO ANALYSIS OF JINDAL'S PROBLEMS
MAR 16 Bobby Jindal keeps trying and trying to stay relevant in the presidential conversation, but it's not working. Why? This analysis in the Washington Post does a pretty good job of nailing the reason - he's trying too damn hard. Jindal will talk to anybody who asks, and even those who haven't asked, about anything he thinks will get him on the TV. As a result, nobody can tell who he is, and because he seems so desperate (and indiscriminate) nobody really cares.

ANOTHER CASE AGAINST THE CITY PARK GOLF COURSE
MAR 16 This post on The Lens argues against the planned golf course at City Park in New Orleans. Since Katrina, much of the heavily damaged park was walled off, creating an unintentional wildlife refuge, Justin Kray writes. When talk began to clear it and build (rebuild) a golf course, the public outcry was immediate and loud. But that doesn't seem to have any impact, Kray adds.

MILLIONAIRE WHO GETS BIG BUCKS IN TAX BREAKS WRITES CHECK
MAR 16 Sha. Willie Robertson, one of those millionaire duck people who get big fat tax breaks to embarrass our state on the TV, wrote a check for $2500 to a food drive that a Catholic school is having in Baton Rouge, NBC 33 reports here. That's cool - but he knows these kids are Catholics, right? And he didn't hear about it on Ellen, did he? Because isn't she onea them gay people?

MAR 16 Call Tracy Chapman, because a revolution's brewing. Parents are fed up with the obsession with standardized tests and what it is costing their children, and so they're saying no to them. This story and graphic in the Picayune shows where that's happening and in what numbers so far. The tests start today, so the real numbers won't be known until later this week - after districts report on how many kids simply didn't show up for them.

NOISE ORDINANCE ON THE TABLE AGAIN
MAR 16 The New Orleans City Council is ready to look at a noise ordinance again, Gambit reports here. New council members will be involved, and a public discussion process is planned. Whether any of those changes will result in an ordinance is anybody's guess, but in the interim, here's some advice: Don't like live music? Move to Metairie. Or even better, back to Seattle - and take your kale with you.
Tuesday's Blogs from the Bog!
Does beer make people tell the truth? This hasn't been our experience, but the NOLA Defender wants to give it a shot. Also today in La La Land, CB tells us where we stand (It's behind Grover, btw) and Aswell is taking Bobby's inventory.
