“LAFA ETTE” goes pink for Komen

The annual Komen Race for the Cure is this Saturday in Downtown Lafayette, and the sculpture installed late last year at Parc Sans Souci is getting in the spirit with a coat of pink paint in keeping with the color theme of breast-cancer awareness and the race.

According to Downtown Lafayette Unlimited, local Komen staff members recently painted the sculpture, which will be painted over at various times throughout the year to mark big events like Festival International de Louisiane during the last weekend in April.

“We want the letters to always be different and fresh, much like Lafayette itself — there’s always something going on. The letters should reflect that,” says Kate Durio, DLU’s marketing director. “The letters are also public art in a public park. We want the public to express themselves here as well.”

Durio says anyone interested in painting the sculpture can contact her via email at [email protected].
