PASA in the Parc tonight

by Mary Tutwiler

Remember the annoying boy in fifth grade who sat in the back row and played “Heart and Soul” by snapping his fingers on his Adam’s apple during math class? He’s now the star of the a capella group Toxic Audio , which will preform tonight at Parc International. The five members of Toxic Audio only use their voices but sound like a band backed by drums, base, electric guitar and Moog synthesizer. They cover a variety of styles of music, everything from folk music to do-wop to beat box in their high-octane show.  The group won the 2004 Drama Desk Award for “Unique Theatrical Experience.” Check out group member Paul Sperrazza throat singing the drum solo from the Beach Boy’s hit “Wipe Out.”

The Grinder , a local arts collective combining visual arts with music opens for Toxic Audio at 6 p.m. Park International has some bleacher seating, or bring lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy the show. There will be food and drink booths, and admission is free. The show is presented by the Performing Arts Society of Acadiana.
