WHY IS THE LEGISLATURE FULL OF WEENIES?
MAY 4 Columnist Jim Beam muses on the (apparent) lack of intestinal fortitude among our legislators in this post. It seems every year that the governor does whatever he likes and our legislators just stand by, holding his purse, while he does it. Why is that? Beam spoke to John Alario about it. (This is an interesting way to seek the answer, but okey dokey.)

MYSTERY SKY-WRITER A MYSTERY NO MORE
MAY 4 If you've been in NOLA over the past couple weeks, or have FB friends who have, you might have seen the messages of love and peace being written in the skies over the city. Apparently, a former New Orleanian is funding the skywriting, and his reason is astonishing in its simplicity.

REACTION TO COMMENTS ABOUT 9TH WARD
MAY 4 Here's an interesting post on the Picayune about an Ohio Congresswoman's statements about the "rebuilding" of the Ninth Ward following Katrina. What's interesting is that a) Mayor Landrieu and others are calling that destruction what it was - a levee failure, not a hurricane - and b) that everybody is pretending that the Ninth Ward has actually been rebuilt. HALF-ASSED GANNETT STORY ON JINDAL MISSES MARK
MAY 4 This story in USA Today about Bobby Jindal remarks on the (mystery, to the author) of Jindal's popularity abroad and lack thereof at home. But as with most Gannett articles, it's superficial and lazy, leaving out huge pieces of the story (e.g. it refers to "proposed cuts" to higher ed, leaving out the 80 percent reduction in funding during his tenure and plans to file bankruptcy, credit rating changes, etc., etc. etc.) This article even skims over Jindal's absences, saying he turns down more invites than he accepts. What?

SHERMAN: DON'T FALL FOR LEGISLATIVE B.S.
MAY 4 Blogger Dayne Sherman has some advice for those watching their legislators posture about higher education - be sure it's not just posturing. It's time to save higher education in this state, but while some legislators say that's their aim, the truth remains to be seen, Sherman says.

MAY 4 Bob Mann is blogging about the continuing conundrum of Louisiana's legislature and it's unwillingness, inability, whatever, to challenge Bobby Jindal's destruction of Louisiana. Are they scared of him? Why on earth should they be scared of him? That's an excellent question, Bob.
Monday's Blogs from the Bog!
Jim Beam wants to know why our legislature is full of weenies. He asked John Alario, though, so he's probably not going to find out.
