THE WHOLE STORY ABOUT LT. HIGGINS IN WAPO
MAY 7 Lt. Clay Higgins, the swaggering Crime Stoppers host for St. Landry Parish known for advising criminals on the run to "have your affairs in order," made national news here - in the Washington Post. This interview is classic Higgins, with comments like the one in which he states that he's met many convicts he can trust, but "very few attorneys." What's more interesting is his back story, which is probably not what you'd expect.

YOU, TOO, CAN BE A TALENTLESS GASBAG!
MAY 7 So, recently IND contributor Lamar White decided he's going to accept a scholarship to get his PhD at LSU's Manship School of Journalism. Seems Scott McKay of the Hayride disagrees with Lamar's career decision, as is evidenced in this lengthy (and, truth be told, a little creepy in its level of obsession) post. One wonders why McKay feels qualified to give anyone career advice, but hey, he seems to spend a lot of time talking about stuff he don't know nothing about, so we're not surprised.

ZURIK INVESTIGATION INTO MERS - AND IT AIN'T GOOD
MAY 8 WVUE's Lee Zurik posts this investigation into spending by the head of the municipal employee retirement system. Brace yourself - because it's classic waste. There are $3,000 dinners at Ruth's Chris and bar bills in excess of a thousand bucks here. The Legislative Auditor plans to look into it, Zurik says.

LOUISIANAVOICE: COSMETOLOGY BOARD PICKING ON VIETNAMESE
MAY 7 Vietnamese folks are well-represented among nail salon owners in the US and in Louisiana - so why is the state Cosmetology board picking on nail salon operators who happen to be of Vietnamese heritage? That's a good question, and is explored in this post on LouisianaVoice.

TODAY IN WHO CARES: JINDAL SETS A DEADLINE
MAY 7 This post on WVUE says that Bobby Jindal has said he'll announce his decision about a presidential campaign by the end of June. If he decides to run (If?) WVUE says, he'll join a crowded field of GOP candidates. No kidding. And seriously, WVUE, why do we keep talking about whether Bobby's going to get into that clown car?

MAY 7 Gambit posts this editorial about proposals to increase Louisiana's cigarette tax which, at 36 cents a pack, is the third-lowest in the nation. Past attempts to increase the tax have been vetoed by Bobby "I'm just here carrying Grover Norquist's water" Jindal, but maybe it is time for the legislature to put on its big girl panties and get the votes to override, Gambit says.

DREHER ON THE DETERIORATION OF OUR SOCIETY
MAY 7 Blogger Rod Dreher is looking at societal problems and religion in this post, and it's interesting on a number of levels. First, he's not accepting the knee-jerk conservative position that it has to do with liberal politics. But he's also making statements in here that seem a little off - that kids getting pregnant couldn't possibly be going to church or that poor people don't go to church. (Say what? Po folk don't go to church?) Huh.
Friday's Blogs from the Bog!
WaPo has the whole story on Lt. Higgins, St. Landry's resident bad ass. Also today, we have career advice from Scott McKay (um... K) and another Zurik investigation on who is wasting your tax dollars.
