Saints re-sign Deuce McAllister

The New Orleans Saints’ all-time leading rusher, and arguably the heart and soul of the franchise since 2002, is coming back in 2008. McAllister’s future was in question after he suffered the second season-ending knee injury of his career last season. But multiple media outlets are reporting that McAllister has agreed to restructure his contract and signed a one-year deal for the 2008 season.

The big unanswered question is whether McAllister will be able to return to some semblance of his previous form. He came back strong from his first knee rehab, but a running back returning from two serious knee injuries is largely uncharted territory. Still, with the emergence of Pierre Thomas and questions remaining about Reggie Bush’s effectiveness and durability, McAllister could be a potent situational back — not to mention providing locker room leadership.
