JUL 1 This story in the New York chronicles the story of a death row inmate convicted of killing his son in Shreveport. The story of how the man came to be sitting on death row is told in excruciating detail, and one wonders over and over while reading it if the same things would have occurred had the man in question been wealthy and white. Whether you believe in the death penalty or you don't, it's worth the read - because we all should know the story of at least one person the state is going to kill in our name.

JUL 1 Blogger Lamar White Jr. covers the Nixon ripoff that Bobby Jindal's presidential campaign attempted last week with the "Tanned, Rested and Ready" slogan. On a number of levels, it's what the youngsters call an epic fail, as Lamar lays out here. ACLU SUES BOBBY; BOBBY CRIES TEARS OF JOY
JUL 1 This one surely made his day - the Picayune reports here that Bobby Jindal got sued by the ACLU, several gay rights organizations and some NOLA residents over his "I can hate gay people if I wanna" executive order. The suit appears to echo the opinions that were strewn about following the initial release of the order, to wit: he exceeded his authority in issuing it. This should not be a problem for Bobby, as he only issued it to make the news anyway. Woot!

JUL 1 The Advocate reports here on Bobby Jindal's lawyer's convoluted reasoning related to the same-sex marriage ruling last week. Individual clerks who disagree with same-sex marriage should be accommodated and allowed to refuse to issue them, he says. K -- does that mean all the Catholic clerks can refused to process divorce paperwork? Is this like McDonald's accommodating people who practice the Hindu religion? Do they get to work only on McNuggets?

THE RICHEST CITY IN LOUISIANA IS...
JUL 1 This post on MSN is one of those lists we all love to read; it's a list of the richest cities in each state in America. Ours is probably not the one that would be your first guess. There's a link in the story to a similar list, of the poorest cities in each state in America. That one will definitely be a surprise, considering the kind of poverty we have in north Louisiana.
Wednesday's Blogs from the Bog!
The New Yorker tells the story of one of Louisiana's death row residents, and it's worth reading. Also today, CB thinks Bobby circumvented the law, and Lamar takes issue with the Nixon-esque slogan.
