Mark Knight et al indicted on racketeering charges

Mark Knight

Oil patch multi-millionaire Mark Knight of Lafayette and three others were indicted by a Lafayette Parish grand jury Wednesday in connection with an alleged plot to plant drugs on Knight’s brother in an effort to force him out of the lucrative family business.

Knight, 57 and a scion of the Knight Oil Tools Family, was indicted along with former Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Deputy Jason Kinch, former State Trooper Corey Jackson and ex-Knight Oil Tools employee Russell Manuel. The indictment says the quartet “did intentionally or knowingly conducted or participated, directly or indirectly, in an enterprise through a pattern of racketeering activity...”

Knight and his co-defendants were arrested in April. Knight’s brother, Bryan, has since filed a civil suit against the four.
