It’s a Macchio Saturday night

Downtown Lafayette’s Movies in the Parc jumps Johnston Street and screens "The Karate Kid" in Freetown at the corner of Johnston and Vermilion streets.

A recent “academic” deconstruction of the 1984 teen classic The Karate Kid argues that Daniel, the central character played by ageless Ralph Macchio, was actually the villain in the movie.

Decide for yourself Saturday night when Downtown Lafayette’s Movies in the Parc jumps Johnston Street and screens the iconic flick in Freetown at the corner of Johnston and Vermilion streets. Admission is free and concessions will be sold, and best of all Taco Sisters across Vermilion Street will stay open late. Concessions (food and beverages) sales begin at 6 p.m.; the movie screens at dusk.

According to Downtown Lafayette Unlimited, the screening is made possible by a Creativity Everywhere Collaborative Grant obtained by the Freetown-Port Rico Neighborhood group, which wants Lafayette to know about the cool stuff happening in one of Lafayette’s most historic neighborhoods. Parking is available on the street and at the parking tower on Vermilion Street adjacent to Parc Sans Souci.

Future offerings from the Movies in the Parc series include Tangled ( Sept. 19 at Parc International).
