Auditor: Report on Jindal Medicaid privatization improved

by The Associated Press

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana's legislative auditor says the health department is doing a better job of submitting required information about Gov. Bobby Jindal's Medicaid privatization.

Legislative Auditor Daryl Purpera's office issued a blistering commentary in 2014 that said Jindal's Department of Health and Hospitals submitted a privatization evaluation to lawmakers that was riddled with errors and unverified data.

On Monday, Purpera's office said the second yearly review had more reliable information and steered clear of "global assertions on savings and health outcomes" that couldn't be corroborated.

However, the auditor's office says DHH still hasn't provided data for 11 of the 29 months of the privatization effort, known as Bayou Health.

A 2013 law requires the annual report about the performance of private managed-care networks handling Medicaid services for mostly pregnant women and children.
