JASON BRAD BERRY'S SOURCE OUTS HIMSELF
"I started out (tracking down Ellis) on my own accord because a journalist asked me to do this to help him out," Denoux said. He said Berry did not pay him to find Ellis, but that he was doing Berry a favor.
Denoux said he doesn't think Frenzel was at the coffee shop to track him. But when asked whether he thought his role in finding Ellis would be of interest to Vitter's campaign, he acknowledged the possibility: "They need to know what's out there and how to handle it."

VITTER PRIVATE EYE TOLD TO FIND SANTA CLAUSE
In The Advocate:
In a telephone interview Tuesday, Cummings said he remained unconvinced he was the intended target of the surveillance. He said he thinks it’s more likely that Vitter had hired Frenzel to tail Normand, hoping he would say something Vitter could use to undermine an endorsement from the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Association that eventually went to Edwards.
Cummings’ beard is one of his most distinguishing features, but he seemed unimpressed to learn it was mentioned in a Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office report.
“The stupid son of a bitch was supposed to find Santa Claus in the cafe; that’s the guy with the white beard,” Cummings said. “But you can tell David Vitter that he doesn’t get anything for Christmas. He’s been naughty.”

JOHN BEL EDWARDS'S RESPONSE TO THE INCENDIARY, NEW VITTER AD
"I am the brother of a sherrif, the son of a sheriff, and the grandson of a sheriff. The notion that I would release prisoners is just so ridiculous that it shows how desperate he (Vitter) is,” John Bel tells me in this exclusive interview.

DAVID VITTER'S FIRST AD IS RACIST
Sorry. There's no way around it. David Vitter's first ad of the runoff, which you can view on Politico because apparently the campaign is too ashamed to add it to their own website, is racist and incendiary and awful. Several have already compared it with Lee Atwater's famous Willie Horton commercial. Edwards, Vitter claims, told a group at Southern (presumably a group of black folks, right?) that he wants Louisiana to no longer be the world's prison capital. He wants to expand pretrial intervention and diversion programs, add a number of specialty courts that deal specifically with non-violent offenders, and invest in drug and mental illness treatment as a way of reducing our incarceration rates. Vitter's response: John Bel Edwards wants to put black "thugs" back on the streets. Look, he even said so to a bunch of black people at Southern.

AS PREDICTED, VITTER LAUNCHES DISTORTED AD
Not surprisingly, David Vitter's latest ad grossly distorts John Bel Edwards's record and his policy positions, writes Tom Aswell.

DUBOS: VITTER IS TRYING TO DEFLECT ON SPYGATE
Sorry, David Vitter, a campaign or SuperPAC employee who follows YOU around with a camera mounted on a tripod is not the same thing as your campaign spending $135,000 to stalk and spy on a lawyer at a coffee shop or a blogger in his home.
