At last night’s meeting, the city-parish council delayed a hard decision on whether to block Greyhound Bus Lines’ controversial move into a neighborhood on Moss Street. The council tabled the issue in order to allow more time for a possible compromise being negotiated by the city-parish administration, which would bring Greyhound back into plans for the yet-to-be completed Rosa Parks Transportation Center.
The deferred ordinance, by councilman Kenneth Boudreaux, repeals a zoning change that allows Greyhound’s bus station (classified as a light industrial facility) to operate out of the Moss Street location. Last year, the previous city-parish council went against staff recommendations in approving the industrial zoning for Greyhound. Area residents have strongly opposed Greyhound’s move into the neighborhood and have threatened to file suit over the issue of “spot” or inconsistent zoning.
