La. presidential primary sign-up underway

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — The sign-up period for presidential candidates interested in being on Louisiana's March 5 primary ballot is starting.

Qualifying for the presidential primary runs from Wednesday through Friday.

Secretary of State Tom Schedler says he doesn't expect to see any presidential candidates show up in person to sign up for the race. He says they'll send a representative to qualify them by proxy or they'll mail their paperwork into Schedler's office.

Presidential candidates have to pay $1,125 with their paperwork or file a nominating petition with signatures.

One candidate who won't be on the ballot is Gov. Bobby Jindal, who ended his bid for the Republican presidential nomination two weeks ago.
