Lafayette considering names for new high school

by The Associated Press

YOUNGSVILLE, La. (AP) — Eight names are under consideration for a new high school in the Youngsville area.

Lafayette Parish Planning Administrator Sandra Billeaudeau tells local media that a committee of community members and school officials will have its first meeting on Monday and hopes to narrow down the proposed names to around three.

Three suggested names — Caneview High School, Sugarview High School and Oil City High School — refer to predominant industries in the area.

Two other proposed names — Youngsville High School and South Lafayette High School — refer to the school's location.

Billeaudeau says she'll bring the short list to students, who will be giving their input on the school's name, its colors and its mascot.

The first phase is expected to be open to students in August 2017.
