Supporters and jesters alike came out in full force to send off Joey Durel after a dozen years reigning in the city-parish’s top spot. The Roast of Joey Durel, part of IND Media’s Lecture Series sponsored by IberiaBank, included a sharp-witted Robert Daigle; Durel’s first paid campaign worker, Ben Berthelot; and LUS/LUS Fiber’s Terry Huval, along with longtime pals/supporters Gary McGoffin and Don Bacqué. The evening ended on a high (and hilarious note) with the renegade Independent Carolers and a rousing version of Deck the Halls that paid homage to Durel’s most beloved moments from the past 12 years in office.
