Derrick Todd Lee is dead

The convicted serial killer was pronounced dead Thursday morning, according to state corrections officials.

Derrick Todd Lee, the so-called South Louisiana Serial Killer, has died. A spokeswoman for the state Department of Safety and Corrections says Lee was pronounced dead Thursday morning. On Death Row at Angola State Penitentiary for the murders of several women in the late ’90s and early 2000s, the 47 year old had been hospitalized since Saturday with an undisclosed illness.

Lee was sentenced to death in 2004 for the murder two years earlier of Charlotte Pace of Baton Rouge. He was also convicted of second-degree murder for the killing of Geralyn DeSoto, and was linked by DNA evidence to the murders of several other South Louisiana women including Trineisha Dené Colomb of Lafayette, whose body was found in November 2002 in a field in Scott two days after she left home to visit her mother’s grave.
